London's Journey

I know we just talked yesterday, but I was so excited to share this beauty with you that I just couldn't wait. Meet London!

I found this poor moppet in the dollar bin at the Salvation Army. Her hair had been chopped off and she was filthy and naked.

As you can see, she had quite a bit of hair remaining on her left side, but the right side had been cut down to the roots. I originally thought it would be cute to see if I could clean up the hair on the left, completely shave the right, and cover her scalp with flocking to make it look like she had a side-shave going on. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the flocking to look right. It kept gumming up and clumping. I think I was using the wrong glue, and I will keep experimenting with this because I think it would make a cute hairstyle for future dolls.

So in the end, I decided to completely cut her hair off, then I shaved her scalp and decided to put a wig on her. In the meantime, I had been talking with her to find out what her name was, what she liked, and what she wanted for her hair. I really wanted to breathe some life into her! She and I decided that she wanted to be called "London," and that she wanted a colorful hair style. Since London's going into my own collection (her job will be to model the clothes I make for American Girl dolls - she's excited to be a model!), I decided to just purchase a wig for her. It was the quickest way to get her in shape, and I was anxious to get going.

As soon as I received the wig, I gave it a good washing and let it dry completely. Then I glued it to London's head and commenced to giving it a good style. I decided I wanted her eyes to show (they're a lovely grayish-amethyst color and the lilac in her hair really brings that out), so bangs were on the menu. I gave it some shape in the back and put a couple of little butterfly hair clips in, and voila!

With her new clothes, her new hair, and her new bracelet, we decided to go for a walk and get some pictures. London especially loved walking by the stream.

I think she turned out beautifully. She is so precious! I'm so happy to have her in my collection, and you'll be seeing her soon as she models the clothes I'll be making for American Girl and American Girl clone dolls.

Have you done something creative today? Go make something beautiful! Blessings,
